In this inspiring episode of Life University’s Thriving Chiros Podcast, Dr. Austin Cohen speaks with Life alumnus Dr. JaGerran, who co-owns Mustard Seed Chiropractic with his wife, Dr. Jessica Knight-Bryant, who also graduated from Life. Dr. JaGerran shares his journey from student to thriving chiropractor, offering insights into the decisions and practices that have shaped his success.
The Power of Reading and Mentorship
One of the pivotal moments in Dr. JaGerran’s journey came from his commitment to continuous learning. Reflecting on his early days, he emphasized the importance of expanding his knowledge beyond the classroom. “I recognized that there were things I needed to learn outside of the program,” he said.
His mentor, Dr. Gilles Lamarche, who emphasized the importance of showing up in life, and a book handed to him by Dr. Tory Robson, The Ultimate Chiropractic Start-Up Guide, were instrumental in his growth. “That book showed me how much I did not know about the business of chiropractic,” Dr. JaGerran shared, highlighting the need to practically apply what he had learned.
Honoring the Craft of Chiropractic
Dr. JaGerran believes in the value of the chiropractic adjustment and how vital it is to respect both the patient’s time and the treatment’s efficiency. “There’s a certain amount of time it takes to deliver the chiropractic adjustment—everything else can be done by someone else,” he explained. Dr. JaGerran has learned to streamline his process, understanding that it’s not the time spent but the quality of care that counts.
Family and Balance: The Keys to Thriving
In addition to his professional journey, Dr. JaGerran emphasizes the significance of family and maintaining balance in life. Early on, he took proactive steps by interviewing people who have navigated marriage and running a practice. Through these conversations, he learned about the challenges and successes couples face when building a life together while also managing a business. This approach helped him and his wife, Dr. Jessica, prepare for potential obstacles, allowing them to strengthen their marriage while continuing to serve others through chiropractic care.
“You can build up a kingdom in chiropractic, and you can be crumbling on the inside; you can have great success and, at the end of the day, lay your head on the pillow, and it feels meaningless and without purpose if you do not have anyone to share it with,” says Dr. JaGerran, who feels blessed to be a husband and dad.
The Importance of a Coach
Dr. JaGerran draws parallels between his chiropractic career and his background in sports. “As an athlete, you always have a coach,” he said. His coach, Dr. Tory Robson, has been instrumental in guiding him as he navigates the challenges of running a practice. “If you’ve thought about me way before I got to this point, you can be my coach all day long,” Dr. JaGerran added, underscoring the value of mentorship.
Dr. JaGerran’s journey from student to thriving chiropractor is a testament to the power of learning, honoring your craft, balancing family, and having a coach.
